This one was suppose to have a background, but the end result was a failure because the foreground subject's shadow does not match with the background's environmental lighting. So I just finished everything on a white bg.

It's a shame you didn't put a background, but this character work is stunning nonetheless!
Sometimes, in funny occasions, the background and foreground might have different lightings. This looks like sun light, though, so in most cases the character and backdrop oughta match, or else it'll look a bit unsettling though you might not consciously know why.

Since we see sun light on subjects and backgrounds many days of our lives, we know what they should look like, even if only subconsciously. Hence, anything deviating significantly either better have a good reason or is gonna be marked as "Incongruous."
